More energy = louder
The more energy you give an object, the bigger its vibrations, and the louder the sound. Hit a drum hard and it's loud; tap it gently and it's quiet.
Amplifiers
Megaphones, speakers and the body of a guitar all amplify (make bigger) the vibrations so we hear more sound.
Soundproofing
Soft materials like curtains, cushions and carpet absorb sound waves, making rooms quieter.
