Volume and Pitch

Sounds can be loud or quiet, high or low. Volume and pitch describe these differences.

Volume

Volume is how loud or quiet a sound is. Bigger vibrations = louder sound.

Pitch

Pitch is how high or low a sound is. Faster vibrations = higher pitch.

Measuring loudness

We measure volume in decibels (dB). A whisper is about 20 dB, normal talking 60 dB, a rock concert 110 dB.
